We would love for you to visit! We see every guest as an opportunity to build a relationship and grow people one step closer to Jesus. Consequently, we want to answer as many “unknowns” as possible, so you might be more comfortable when you arrive. Our Mission & Vision
Our vision and mission is to love people one step closer to Jesus
We try to achieve this as a church through weekly Sunday worship services, Community Group gatherings, service projects, and community outreach events.
Berea Christian Church is committed to the principles of our Christian church heritage in the Restoration Movement, as expressed by phrases like these:
- Where the Bible speaks, we speak; where the Bible is silent, we are silent.
- In essentials, unity; in opinions, liberty; and in all things, love.
- We are not the only Christians, but we are Christians only.
- No creed but Christ.
Who We Are
Our Team & Leadership
We couldn’t do what we do without the dedication of our staff, elders, and ministry team leaders. Start to learn about our leaders here and feel free to get in touch with them with any questions you may have about their specific ministry areas, how to get involved here, or what our community at Berea is like.
Our Pastor: Kris Howell
Kris has been serving full time in ministry for the past 12 years. He has a passion to hear people’s stories and to listen for what they are passionate about in life. He is a graduate of DePauw University and has a Master’s Degree from Cincinnati Christian University.
Kris and his family love to be together. He and his wife Kristen
have been married for 22 years and have 4 children Kailey, Kourtney, Korey and Kinley. They are all a blessing!
His family prays that you will connect to Berea as quickly as they did. On the first
Sunday they visited one of Kris’ daughters told him “this feels like home”. Little did
they know that just a few weeks later God would call them here and now Berea is their new home. We hope you will make it yours as well.
Prudence Bickhaus Martin
A native of Quincy, IL, Prudence became enamored with music at a very young age and quickly understood that for her, music and God were nearly inseparable. Shortly after receiving her Bachelors in Worship Ministry from Lincoln Christian University, she made the transition from one corn field to the next and began calling Brazil – and Berea – her new home.
As the worship minister, she spends her time planning and preparing for services and connecting with the people of the church. Her hope is that the creative elements of the services will help people to engage with scripture and respond to God in new and thought-provoking ways. She is a teacher at heart and is incredibly passionate about helping the congregation of Berea explore and learn what it truly means to worship.
When she’s not in the office, she enjoy spending time watching Netflix with her husband Shobi, baking, reading, and searching for the perfect cup of coffee.
Though her responsibilities as Secretary/Communications are far from the romance and comedy of her favorite movie, The Princess Bride, Cathy feels blessed to be a part of a church family like Berea. “I love that Berea is a friendly church. The people are thoughtful to the needs of others and generous with their time and talents.”
As a Hoosier native, Cathy has been an integral part of the growth and transformation of Berea since 1996. As the “communication hub” at BCC, Cathy does more than simply answer phones. She wears many hats, adding value through information sharing, scheduling, staff assistance, as well as lending a compassionate ear from time to time.
When she is not in the office, you may find her reading, playing games with family and friends, or riding in the semi with her husband Rodney. With four children, eight grandbabies, and a loving husband, “every day is a blessing!
Carl is a wastewater operator and is married to his high school sweet heart and best friend Gayla. He has two grown daughters, Susie Hostetler, and Chrissy Prado as well as 10 grandchildren he is incredibly proud of. He enjoys all sports but baseball is his favorite (go St Louis Cardinals). Carl enjoys riding his motorcycle and playing golf with his wife. Carl has attended Berea for over 3 years and has been an elder since Jan. 2018. He loves the heart of the people of Berea – they love the Lord and each other and it shows in their lives.
Frequently Asked Questions
Why are there two services?
Two services allow us to help more people move one step closer to Jesus! As we continue to grow and need more space, we may add more if necessary…
What are services like?
Our services are about an hour long and both services are identical! Our worship team is a full band that typically plays contemporary Christian music by artists such as Hillsong Worship and Elevation Worship, but it’s not uncommon to hear our congregation join in and sing a hymn together! Sermons are usually 25-35 minutes long and we do celebrate communion during every single worship service.
How should I dress?
We are all pretty laid back. Come dressed in whatever you’re most comfortable wearing.
What do you have for my kids?
Feel free to sign your kids (5th grade and younger) in at our Kids Konnection desk located in the lower level hallway.Kid Konnection uses age appropriate worship and lessons, geared for your child’s spiritual growth! You are also more than welcome to bring them into the worship center with you!
If you have a Middle School or High School student, we also have a class for them downstairs during services in addition to a Youth Group that meets every Sunday evening.
Where should I park?
We have parking spots all around all the sides of our building, as well as a gravel parking lot attached to the East side of our building and a gravel parking lot across the street! If you are a guest with us, we have several reserved parking spots for guests located in the gravel parking lot on the East side of our building.
